5 Celebrities Who Lost Their Pets in Feb. and March

By Angelina Simmons, May 13, 2025

If you’ve ever lost a pet, you know how unbelievably life-changing it can be. This is true whether the pet owner is a celebrity discussing their pet’s death, or a regular citizen like the rest of us. A pet’s love continues for the rest of your life, and it’s jarring no matter who you are. Hearing how your favorite musicians and actors deal with the pain can sometimes help you feel less alone.

Read on to see how five celebrities paid tribute to their pets this year.

1. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Actor and wrestler Dwayne Johnson announced on Feb. 25th that he had to say farewell to his French bulldog, Hobbs.

“I’ve been numb over this loss, but we’re so grateful for every ounce of pure love he gave our entire family and we’re so grateful he didn’t suffer long as he quietly and bravely left in the night,” Johnson wrote on his Instagram account.

”Not sure how spirits work but come back and visit every once in a while so we can get in trouble and laugh again.”

2. Kelly Ripa

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos announced on February 4th that their Shih Tzu, Chewie, had passed away. The dog, who was 17, was euthanized by a veterinarian at their home that night.

"Chewie had stopped eating for a couple of days and had been eating less and less for the past few weeks. She was extremely dehydrated and had some neurological stuff going down," Consuelos said on their TV show. "It takes a pet owner to understand this kind of loss. It's grief. It really is grief. But knowing that we did the right thing because it was just going to be really, really, really bad over the next few days for her."

3. Rita Ora

Singer Rita Ora announced on February 7th that her beloved cat Bruno had passed away.

“RIP to the one family member who always brought us all back together — love you bruniiii. When pets leave they are not gone forever — just simply watching over you from another, probably more comfortable place, for them,” she said on Instagram.

4. Carrie Fisher’s Dog Gary

Anyone who was a fan of the late actress Carrie Fisher recalls how close she was with her French bulldog, Gary Fisher. She brought him to movie premieres, red carpets and other events. On February 1st, a post to Gary’s official Instagram page announced that he had passed away.

Gary had been living with Carrie’s former assistant since she had passed away in 2016. He was just about to turn 13 years old.

5. Jason and Kylie Kelce

Football star Jason Kelce and his wife Kylie had to say goodbye to their Irish Wolfhound, Baloo, in March.

“We were lucky enough to have seven years with the goofiest, sweetest, most lovable, and tolerant dog I’ve ever met,” Kylie wrote on her Instagram account. “He wanted nothing more than carbs and pets.”
